Lautan Luas Plants 10,000 Mangroves in Semarang, Strengthening ESG Commitment for a Sustainable Future

PT Lautan Luas Tbk (LTLS), a leading manufacturing, chemical distribution, support, and services company in Indonesia with over 70 years of experience, affirmed its commitment to sustainability by planting 10,000 mangrove seedlings in the Semarang Mangrove Center area on Thursday (24/04). The activity, titled the Lautan Luas Green Belt Program, involved 30 employees from the Lautan Luas Semarang office and was attended by the Head of the Forestry Service Branch of the Central Java Province Environmental and Forestry Agency (DLHK), the Government and Officials of Mangunharjo and Mangkang Wetan sub-districts, and the Kenari Community.

Eurike Hadijaya, Investor Relations, Corporate Communication & ESG Manager of PT Lautan Luas Tbk, stated, “This Lautan Luas Green Belt Program is a tangible manifestation of Lautan Luas’ vision, ‘a better world through what we do,’ through the action of planting 10,000 mangroves which supports addressing climate change, protecting coastal ecosystems and biodiversity, as well as strengthening community resilience. This is also in line with Lautan Luas’ ESG commitments and SDG goals.”

“In the process, Lautan Luas will monitor the development of each tree planted for 3 years (2025—2028) by partnering with BakauMu and the Kenari Community, which consists of local residents, to ensure the plants grow well and can provide maximum possible benefits,” Eurike said.

Mangroves absorb up to five times more carbon than terrestrial forests, while also serving as a natural barrier against abrasion and land subsidence, which are two main issues on the coast of Semarang.[1] This ecosystem also supports biodiversity and the local economy, as well as supporting the Sustainable Development Goals, including climate action (SDG 13), sustainable cities (SDG 11), and the preservation of marine (SDG 14) and terrestrial (SDG 15) ecosystems.

The Head of the Central Java Province Forestry Service Branch Region III, Pujiharini, S.Hut, M.P., appreciated Lautan Luas’ contribution to environmental conservation. “Initiatives like this are very important to strengthen the region’s resilience against the impacts of climate change, disaster mitigation, as well as community economic development,” she said.

One of the Lautan Luas employees who participated as a volunteer, Hanifatunnisa Az-Zahra, expressed, “Being directly involved in this activity makes me more aware of the importance of protecting the environment. I am proud to be part of a company that truly cares about the environment and ecosystems, and takes real action to realize sustainability.”

This program is a continuation of Lautan Luas’ long-term commitment to sustainability. Previously, in 2024, the Company also planted 10,000 mangrove seedlings on the coast of Mauk, Tangerang, coinciding with the company’s 73rd anniversary. Through the Lautan Luas Green Belt Program and various other initiatives, the Company continues to strive to make a positive impact on the environment and society.
